삶의 마지막 순간까지 쉬지 않고 하루하루
종종 걸음으로 소리없이 다가가고,
지나간 날들은 어리석은 자들에게
티끌의 죽음으로 돌아가는 길을 비추어 왔구나.

꺼져라, 꺼져, 덧없는 촛불아!              
인생이란 기껏해야 걸어다니는 그림자,             
잠시 주어진 시간 동안 무대 위에서 뽐내고 으시대지만               
그 시간이 지나면 영영 사라져 버리는 가련한 배우,            
그건 백치가 지껄이는 이야기,
